(1)Classroom Teacher Aide  PRE-K SLC Location: McKinley Elementary  

 

This is a 7-hour day-1330 hours per year position and will be paid as per salary schedule. Persons applying for this position must have a minimum of a high school diploma or G.E.D. certificate; they must have or be willing to obtain a State of Ohio Department of Education Teacher Aide Permit, along with the Highly Qualified Requirement of the No Child Left Behind. Teacher Aide experience would be helpful.

JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE: Classroom Aide - SLC

 

RESPONSIBLE TO: Building Administrator/Classroom Teacher/Director of Student Services DEPARTMENT: Aides

 

CLASSIFICATION: SLC Aides

 

LENGTH OF CONTRACT: Nine-month contract - 190 days at 7 hours per day – total of 1330 hours per year

 

GENERAL DUTIES: The Specialized Learning Center (SLC) Aide will provide support and assistance to teachers and students in an educational setting, with a focus on working with students with special needs. The ideal candidate should have excellent communication skills, patience, and a passion for working with students of all abilities. This position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of students with disabilities and contribute to their academic and personal growth.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate's or bachelor's degree in education or a related field is a plus.
  • Previous experience working with students, particularly those with disabilities, in an educational or youth-oriented setting.
  • Knowledge of special education principles and practices, including different learning styles and instructional strategies for students with disabilities.
  • Familiarity with individualized education plans (IEPs) and the ability to implement accommodations and modifications.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with students, teachers, parents, and support professionals.
  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to adapt to the needs of individual students with disabilities.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with educational software and assistive technology.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical guidelines.
  • Flexibility to work collaboratively as part of a team and independently as required.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain certification) is desirable.

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  • Collaborate with teachers to implement lesson plans and instructional activities that accommodate the needs of children with special needs.
  • Assist students with disabilities in accessing the curriculum, adapting materials and resources as necessary.
  • Provide individualized support to special needs students, including those with physical, intellectual, or sensory disabilities.
  • Help develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities, in collaboration with the special education team.
  • Support students with disabilities during classroom activities, ensuring their full participation and engagement.
  • Assist with personal care tasks, including changing diapers, feeding, and toileting, for students who require assistance.
  • Use specialized equipment and assistive technology to enhance the learning experience for students with disabilities.
  • Perform heavy lifting and physical assistance as required to support students with mobility challenges.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment that promotes the social and emotional development of children with special needs.
  • Page 3 of 4 Collaborate with therapists and other support professionals to implement therapy goals and interventions for students with disabilities.
  • Monitor and manage the behavior of students with disabilities, ensuring a safe and respectful classroom environment.
  • Assist in the transition planning process for students with disabilities, including postschool goals and vocational training opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and other relevant information for students with disabilities.
  • Support students with disabilities during tests and assessments, providing accommodations as specified in their IEPs.
  • Assist in the preparation of teaching materials and classroom resources, making necessary adaptations for students with disabilities.
  • Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development activities related to special education.

NOTE:

This aide position requires a High School Diploma or G.E.D. Certificate. The aide will need to pass a B.C.I. & a F.B.I. check, and Para Pro test.

 

The aide shall hold an Ohio Educational Aide permit as defined in section 3319.088 ORC.
