Anticipated Opening for 2024-2025 School Year
Bus Drivers - Transportation Building
This person will work a minimum 4.5 hours per day and will be paid as per salary schedule. Persons applying for this position must have a CDL Class B License with School Bus endorsement along with a high school diploma or GED.
If you do not have a CDL Class B License with School Bus endorsement, we offer free training with a certified on board instructor. Training will provide the skills to obtain Class B CDL with school bus and passenger endorsement. The instructor will work around the trainee’s schedule to accommodate training, including nights and weekends. The trainee will initially pay for the temporary permit, CDL testing, and CDL license. The initial cost is approximately $125.00. Upon successful completion of testing and is officially hired, those costs are reimbursed to the trainee. The only non-reimbursed cost to the trainee is the cost of the fingerprinting. The trainee has the potential to work as a substitute bus aide while being trained.

JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: School Bus Driver
RESPONSIBLE TO: Transportation Supervisor
DEPARTMENT: Transportation
CLASSIFICATION: Bus Driver
LENGTH OF CONTRACT: Nine-month contract - 188-day contract (hours depend on bus route)
GENERAL DUTIES: Safely operate a school bus transporting students to and from their homes and schools and on extra trips. Preferred one-year school bus driving experience.
QUALIFICATIONS: Class B CDL with S&P Endorsement, Valid Pre-Service Certificate, Physical Capabilities to perform duties without restrictions
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
Drives the school bus on assigned routes, picking up and discharging students at designated locations.
Drives the school bus on extra trips as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor of the school system.
Observes all of the laws and regulations regarding the driving of a school bus at all times.
Maintains orderly conduct of students on the bus at all times.
Completes a report on misconduct of bus students on the computer when necessary.
Completes reports, as required, on the number and names of bus students, number of bus stops, trip mileage, time, etc.
Checks all tires and wheels, lights, emergency equipment, etc. daily prior to bus runs as per rules and regulations.
Reports immediately all mechanical deficiencies and failures to the Transportation Mechanic.
Cleans the inside of the bus daily and outside of bus when needed.
Reports all accidents to the appropriate law enforcement agency and the Transportation Supervisor of the school system.
Keeps fuel in the bus and sees that the oil and water are checked regularly.
Attends safety meetings as directed.
Administers necessary first aid in case of accident.
Does evacuation and safety drills on their bus routes.
Performs such other duties as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor/designee.
